August 16th indoor field First impressions

Pictures of the new Indoor field.

General impression - overall imperssion is good.

Reffing - great, very attentive and active reffing.

Playing field - good, I could play it and stay alive playing pump.

Chrono - poor, reff had to find a piece of cardboard so people wouldn't fall down - I would guess this will be improved considerably.

Paint - improper and poor, two points to this

1st the paint dealer improperly stored the paint so it was in very bad condition, this of course is not #1pb fault.

2nd the paint is a poor selection for a field where everything is close quarters, it is that thick shelled rental grade paint which is great for        creating extra bounces at distance, hopefully this will be corrected with a different grade of paint. When your this close and chronoing down to 250 the heavier the paint the more bounces will be made. I shot a guy three times at 4 feet and none of my paint broke.

Staging area - ok but the concrete gets slippery when paint breaks on it and becomes dangerous, having the back door open increased the inside temp near the back staging area (still cooler than outside).

Bathrooms - real full bathrooms are excellent if they can be kept clean and working this will be great.

Game turn time - much better than out at Grant, since there is basicly only one field (or two if they split it) all the reffs are consolidated and can turn group games one after another, there aren't any long pauses in game play other than when they are running the paint cleaner over the field.

Game type - Air ball only, not my favorite but I still had fun playing though it would be interesting to possibly see some different set ups in the future.

The main issue for the day was paint quality and type.

Issues that need to be address

better chrono station, better paint type for indoor play, covering areas that are a slip danger like staging areas and the chrono station with a carpet of some sort,

I'll give 3 1/2 Stars out of 5 for a first effort and being a start up. It's some where I'd play at again during the Texas heat.

Re: August 16th indoor field First impressions

My first visit to the indoor facility at Willowchase was on Tuesday, September 23, 2008.

My observations compared to the above review are for update purposes only and of course the situation at this field continues to undergo a continually changing evolution.

The paint used was ZEN only and the prices for this paint were reduced to $49.95 per case but would also be sold in lesser quantities with no penalty.

The "chrono room" appears to have been discontinued at least for now and turned into a conference/meeting room. The chrono now takes place on the field by a ref. So the issue above did not exist when I was last there.

I'm confused about the staging area issue and it is likely that this also has changed. There was no way for paint to get to the staging area when I was last there. Perhaps this has been addressed already. I would observe that the staging area is not very large but I'm sure if there was a group or party that they may even expand to the meeting rooms in the immediate area to expand the number of available tables. Otherwise I am not sure what the plan is to expand the available number of tables.

Overall I really agree with Clearrush and think that review was excellently written and fair. I hope others will also add to this thread with other updates and changes they observe so we can keep up on such things easily. This is something new for #1 Paintball. So, any constructive feedback would likely be greatly appreciated.

BTW, the barricades were all in the process of being changed the last time I was there and the plan was to be in a tournament style.

Also, we only had three of us playing when I was there. We talked to the refs about only using 1/2 of the field and it worked out very well for a 2:1 challenge. The refs were very attentive and ready to offer suggestions to keep us interested in varieties of play.

I will agree with the 3 1/2 of 5 stars rating still, because the field is better than average for what I expected. HOWEVER, it is very important to realize that this field location is far from complete and it is only because of the ongoing construction and lack of the pro-shop and other minor issues that it lacks a higher rating. These should be resolved in the immediate future and I have been told to expect a rather FULL service pro-shop on this site.

    Best regards.
