Are Scenarios a Thing of the Past?

Are Scenarios a Thing of the Past?

With the cancellation of Rock Wars and the lack of subsequent posting, advertising or general "buzz", it would seem that scenarios at #1 Paintball have gone the way of the dinosaur...as in extinct.

It's really too late to get one rolling for October, most likely, so there won't be an "Ogre and Princess, Part Deux" this year, which saddens me.

I thoroughly enjoyed the three scenarios I've attended out at Grant Road. They were all fun, silly things that put smiles on faces while still providing that adrennaline rush so many of us enjoy. To see #1 Paintball drop out of the scenario business is a disappointment I hadn't expected to witness.

I understand that business is business, and the opening of the indoor park and the ongoing saga which is the Aldine field is taking its toll on corporate resources. A company can only do so much. Still, the questions I'd like to ask are: "Has #1 Paintball decided, as a management group, that the resources expended to produce a scenario are not worth expending? Has #1 Paintball married itself strictly to "Rec-ball" and private parties?"

I realize I'm not the "target audience" for corporate. I don't enjoy rec-ball all that much. The refs never want to go to Bochica or Ranger Manor. They just want to cycle the main group through speedball, hyperball, castle-to-castle and spools. That's great. Easy for them. It just doesn't float my boat.

I'm a scenario player. Recball just isn't my thing. I go to the park, pay my fee, wait for the main group to go out...and get shot because I'm big, not very fast and there's 40 people trying to hide behind the same handful of bunkers. Rinse and repeat.

I like knowing the game's going to last for 8 hours (or 12 or 26) and there'll be missions to run that will take me all over the park. I like having to sneak a little. I enjoy maneuver and fire by squads in a wooded area. I'm not crazy about slinging paint on a field the size of a basketball court.

I'm just one guy with an opinion and #1 Paintball is doing well, it seems. They're making money, which is what a business is supposed to do. I doubt my opinion carries much weight.

I'll still show up from time to time to say hello and hang out, but as for play, I'll see you in Harwood or Mt. Pleasant. I'd rather deal with the politics of Tactical Paintball and Viper Paintball than play "spools".

If I'm jumping the gun and scenarios will still happen, then great! I'll be among the first to register. Given to total lack of posting on the subject, though, it's kind of difficult to hold any optimism.

See you when I see you.

Well maybe we will have a Reindeer Revolt 2 that was a awesome fun game. I am also saddened and disappointed that another game hasn't been talked about yet.

Re: Are Scenarios a Thing of the Past?

I'd love to try a scenario game at a #1 park...it just seems to be my bad luck that each and every one I've signed up for has been canceled.  It's a great field, has ref's and staff that know scenarios probably better than any other Houston field, so I'm in the dark too when it comes to woodsplay/scenario at Grant.

Maybe with Quinn shutting down, Grant will expand into a broader market than parties and spools?
